Diagnostics Layer

Diagnostic services that are used in automotive applications have recently been standardized. As a result, basic requirements can be implemented by a standard software component.

  • Evaluation of diagnostic requests
  • Conversion into a functional interface to the application layer
  • Direct handling of network-specific services
  • Session handling
  • Exception handling of invalid conditions such as unknown services
  • Time management, for example response pending during a request
  • Interface to the transport protocol
  • Providing the diagnostic status

The diagnostic layer performs diagnostic services via CAN according to ISO 15765-1 (Application and Session Layer) and ISO 15765-3. This part of the standard was coordinated with ISO 14230-3 (Keyword Protocol 2000 services).

Some of these services are handled differently by the automobile manufacturers. Therefore the diagnostic layer has to be spcific to the vehicle platform. The implementation of these specific requirements is part of Vector's deliveries.
